While on my walk this morning, I was thinking about paid subscribers and whether they feel they should be getting more out of this Substack. I have never pay-walled any content, mostly because I started this as a way to express myself freely, without the screeching banshees nipping at my heels. I didn’t think it would be a primary source of income, although that day may come sooner rather than later.
But I think it’s probably not fair that some are paid, and some are not paid. So, rather than putting my regular posts and podcasts behind a paywall, I propose offering additional content. I’m thinking the stuff about Hollywood and culture, maybe true crime could be premium content, while the political stuff will stay as it’s always been.
I might come up with other ideas, interviews, and additional podcasts, but I will warn you in advance.
Thank you for your comments, support, kindness, and the occasional guidance when I’ve made a mistake or am on the wrong track about something.
Here are some things I’m listening to and reading:
Paranoia is our Duty - Walter Kirn
Joe Biden's False Optimism Ruy Teixeira, UnHerd
Inside the Facebook Files: Emails Reveal the CDC's Role in Silencing COVID-19 Dissent Robby Soave, Reason
Let's Make America Work Again - James Strock
Joe Walsh, I think, has become addicted to the attention he gets on Twitter from the Left and has lost the plot. Nice guy, though, I think.
Great speech:
My friend Christian Toto has a new podcast:
My friend Kat has a new book (I listen on Audible):
Interesting opening segment about Biden and Watergate
Lex Fridman on 1984:
Jimmy Dore dresses down Sean Penn:
Hitler reacts to Velma:
Best movie of the year (though it’s pretty dark comedy):
I think it's important to provide content for free and don't feel I'm being taken advantage of.
I appreciate the opportunity to subscribe for a while to get a feel for a new author before paying, and think that's important for your marketing.
As always, thank you for all of your content, and willingness to break from your old associates. That takes a lot of bravery.
I think I am getting a great value as a paid subscriber and would be willing to pay more for more content as well. Plus I am learning about film, politics, culture, history and life.
