In my last piece I incorrectly said that the White House demands you choose a pronoun before leaving a message. This is not true. They give you the option of doing so. You do not even have to leave your pronoun if you do not wish. It is not mandatory. This is a great example of how what you read on Twitter is, more often than not, not true.
But I wanted to correct this for the record.
There is no asterisk, so it isn’t mandatory - and even if it were you could still choose “prefer not to share.”
