The latest poll from Iowa that showed Biden down to 41% in the state while Trump was leading by 7 points seems to indicate that there is a very good chance indeed that Trump could pull in a second win. And I worry about the mental health of those who regularly use Twitter or Facebook or watch CNN or MSNBC and that is because for four years now they have been selling apocalyptic fear to the American people in reaction to Trump. Some of it is valid. Some of it is based on reality. But much of it or most of it is cherry picked, taken out of context and blown up to extreme proportions to freak people out - for clickbait? For likes? To scare them enough to vote?
CNN is serving up non-stop COVID panic. If even one person got COVID at a Trump rally it is major news - but they completely ignored the protests and in fact, contact tracers were ordered not even to ask if patients had attended protests. They methodically hunt down any negative COVID news as it relates to Trump, faithfully doing the bidding of the Democrats to help bring down the POTUS. But the long term effects of pushing fear down people’s throats during a time of enormous fear already is immeasurable.
I can’t believe some of the things on my Twitter feed. It is the most horrifying thing I’ve ever witnessed and it’s been going on for months. You can’t even tell if it is true anymore. If it’s one sentence picked up at a rally, or video footage that may or may not provide context. It doesn’t matter. If you watch your scroll you will see nothing but fear that is potentially putting people’s lives at risk. They believe, probably, in their collective stupidity, that they can drive voters to the polls with these fears of cheating and voter suppression and Trump being the Devil incarnate. But all it is doing is creating waves upon waves of hysteria and fear which only has one place it can go next: to fighting in the streets.
And I realize this sounds exactly like something Trump would say because he has said it - it also happens to be true. Unfortunately.
I don’t think I am the only one who is scared about Election Day. And the worst of it is that 90% of it isn’t even real. It is fear generated for clicks. Fear generated in hopes of driving votes. Fear generated to keep Twitter and Facebook’s gears churning. It is irrational fear by a culture that had built a utopia that Trump disrupted.
The left is saying “there are things you can’t say or do because they are offensive, racist, misogynist.” And Trump is saying, “Oh yeah? Watch me.” Since Trump’s rise was propelled by the simple act of tormenting “the libs” they will love nothing more than to see him win in 2020 - the ultimate own.
Figuring out what is real and what isn’t is key to finding one’s sanity in a time like this. You can’t find it on the left in media anymore. You have to expand your horizons and go outside of the mainstream to podcasts, to alternative outlets and yes, even glance at the opposition once in a while. Otherwise, you are inside an echo chamber that is driving millions of people completely insane.
I saw someone else on Twitter say “will we even have an America if Trump wins?” Of course we will have an America if Trump wins. That is what people genuinely believe and there aren’t many journalists to dissuade them of that notion. Just because we built a Utopian version of America under Obama that doesn’t mean the pendulum won’t swing in the opposite direction. It always does. In the 1970s when Nixon rose after the Kennedy era was one of those times. This is a country with competing ideologies that is always changing fast.
Utopias never work for very long. Sooner or later someone is going to come along to kick them down. Trump was described by his niece Mary as the guy who was always knocking down the building blocks of his siblings just for fun. That pretty much describes the election in a nutshell.
I genuinely do not know who will win. Someone will. The war will rage regardless. Trump seems to be catching a last minute headwind. He is doing five rallies today. FIVE. Trump’s voters will turn out for pure love for their president. Biden’s voters will supposedly turn out for pure hatred of their president.
If I had to bet, I guess I’d bet on love. Trump will turn out every last one of his voters. I’m not sure Democrats have that same kind of rocket fuel. I guess we’ll see tomorrow. Hang tough, friends.
The Media is Whipping up Apocalyptic Fear and Hysteria for Election Day
That's an interesting observation - that Trump (usually portrayed as the devil incarnate is most of the media) is running a campaign based on voting FOR him, while the Biden campaign is based on voting AGAINST his opponent. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.
