Just before heading to bed one presumably Democratic Party member visited this substack just to leave a mean comment, which I happily deleted. I say happily but really it is a tragedy. How did we ever get here, where internet users thought it was okay to lash out, dump on someone and then move on? I’ve been online since 1994 and believe it or not it used to be a civil place. I’ve watched it sink lower over the years as comment sections, Reddit, 4-Chan birthed the worst of them. But anonymous trolls are one thing. People who fancy themselves the “better” side because they champion social justice causes or hate Trump are not only cruel - regularly, routinely - but they demand you give them only what they want to read. I always think I’m used to it. But I can’t seem to adapt to it, no matter what.
All of this because I have become a dissenter of late. Because of this, I’ve been called, in so many words, a racist, a “concern troll”, an agitator and something else today but I don’t remember what. I will add that you’d think the side that was winning, or supposedly winning, would feel like they can stop with all of that - but you would be wrong. The hatred, venom, demand to conform or else has never been worse.
Gee, seems like something to really look forward to, huh? That side winning and taking power? That’s going to be fun.
I should add that there are just as many civilized folks, even if they still try to convince you to think like they do. At least they mean well and they give you the benefit of the doubt. So to them I say thank you. It’s too bad that the loudest voices on the left aren’t the kindest.
