1970s Neil Young and Joni Mitchell time traveling to the future Joni: Hey Neil, I mean old Neil. Are you following this Spotify thing? Neil: What’s Spotify? Joni: Oh, um, well how much do you know about 2022 America? Neil: How much do YOU know about 2022 America?
Wonderful wonderful wonderful! I love well-done time travel stories.
I might quibble slightly with the sharpness of the contrast. I was an idiot hippie in the '60s, and we KNEW we were serving the DNC, not working for generalized freedom. Serving the DNC was necessary because Nixon, just as serving the DNC is necessary now because Trump.
The dirtier part is that Nixon and Trump were Deepstate's best servants, much more productive than any Democrat or hippie. Nixon gave the left everything it wanted in 1972. Endless war, affirmative action, abortion, EPA. Trump also pretended to drain the swamp but in fact he never fired any swamp critters, and in fact he gave us the "pandemic" and the lockdowns and the muzzles and the jabs.
Neither of these two are very interested in science:
In an interview with Melody Maker in 1985, Neil Young backed Reagan's gun
control policies and said of AIDS, "You go to a supermarket and you see a faggot
behind the fuckin' cash register, you don't want him to handle vour potatoes.”
Speaking of her Morgellons syndrome, Joni said: “Fibers in a variety of colors protrude out of my skin like mushrooms after a rainstorm: they cannot be forensically identified as animal, vegetable or mineral.”
At first I thought this was silly, but then I kept reading and found it to be brilliant.
You articulated this better than I ever could: "Joni: It’s a massive corporation like all of the massive corporations that control all American life now. They consolidated. They are so big that one of them banned the President of the United States. They have rendered the US Constitution null and void. Who needs the First Amendment when the gatekeepers to free speech are large corporations that almost everyone depends on to make a living. They are all connected - banks, credit card companies, internet service providers, publishing houses. If a company like Time Warner owns many other companies they can practice top-down authoritarianism and you have no choice but to comply".
