Matt Taibbi has collaborated on a piece for Public:
Now, multiple credible sources tell Public and Racket that the United States Intelligence Community (IC), including the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), illegally mobilized foreign intelligence agencies to target Trump advisors long before the summer of 2016.
The new information fills many gaps in our understanding of the Russia collusion hoax and is supported by testimony already in the public record.

After Public and Racket had been told that President Barack Obama’s CIA Director, John Brennan, had identified 26 Trump associates for the Five Eyes to target, a source confirmed that the IC had “identified [them] as people to ‘bump,’ or make contact with or manipulate. They were targets of our own IC and law enforcement — targets for collection and misinformation.”
One of the key findings is that these intelligence agencies were used to justify the FBI’s involvement to spy on the Trump campaign:
Instead, the US IC asked its foreign allies to target 26 members of Trump’s team, possibly to justify the FBI’s investigation.

Otherwise, Matt Taibbi recorded a livestream talking about this story and others that are breaking this week. Of course, we know it won’t make the mainstream news, but I would hope the Republicans in the JC will bring some of these folks in for questioning to get to the bottom of this.
They were already planning this as early as 2015, way before Hillary Clinton or Trump secured their nominations. So what was this really about? Did it have to do with Hillary Clinton or was it to do with Obama and the ongoing feud between the two men?
This thing is as dirty as Watergate. You might even say “follow the money.”
Cambridge academic Stefan Halper, one of the few outed “confidential human sources” from the Crossfire Hurricane probe, approached Flynn in March 2016.
“The Stefan Halper story is ridiculous,” a source said. “He was the consultant to write papers that really weren’t papers and paid inflated sums like $400,000… He was conducting bumps and intel contacts.”
Halper approached at least four Trump targets in total and was paid $411,575 by the US government in 2016 via the Office of Net Assessment, a Pentagon office that exists “to pay off spies,” as one source put it.

In light of what we now know about 2016, how much worse was the interference in 2018, 2020 (especially), and 2022, when the Deep State was scared to incontinence about continued Trump success, and expected to be just as shielded from the consequences of bad behavior?
This is why I think that Trump will simply not be allowed to win in 2024. The Deep State will do whatever is required to stop a Trump victory, rule of law be damned, even openly defying election laws and procedures, secure that Trump will get no help from the Courts and that the bad actors will suffer no consequences. And with that, the American experiment in self government dies.
It has already happened. We are at the same point as the Romans were in the transition from republic to Empire. Augustus was the first Emperor but he didn't call himself that and maintained all the old institutions of the republic. They just didn't have any actual power. *Biden is sort of an anomaly in that he is a front for an unknown cabal and doesn't have any actual power himself but the Constitutional institutions don't have any power either.
I always go back to 2015 when I think about the Trump smear, but the more details they uncover and how deep the deep state goes, the worse it gets.

FACT: the FBI has served as the steel right arm of Presidents - Democrat or Republican since its inception. It has never mattered which party that president came from.
FACT: J Edgar Hoover was a power broker because of the files he kept on every person whin his reach. He reached the peak of that power with every president from FDR though LBJ. His focus was first organized crime, then defense of the US from Nazi and Japanese spies and saboteurs, then the infiltration of Communists with our institutions. That focus dimmed after Eisenhower and by the late' '50s and early '60s, the FBI morphed into "Communist watchers" and did absolutely nothing to them and their foreign connections, espionage, funding, and direct interference with our conduct of the war in Vietnam. That morphing continued into visibly political interference against Republican political candidates that we have now.
Actually, Michael - you know the answer to that question better than I do! Comey knew that Hillary! really broke some serious National Security laws and that the "Russiagate" investigations were made up out of nothing. He knew that long before the rest of us found out.
