So the way to protect democracy is to prevent half the population voting for its presumptive nominee? I’m willing to bet this backfires in a spectacular manner.

"Democracy" is just code for one party rule...by democrats.

They have to “Protect” democracy by destroying democracy, it makes perfect nonsense.

You see it’s only “democracy” when they are in charge. All this constant carping about “our democracy” is a disingenuous head fake; The Founders hated democracy because it is nothing more than mob rule that always ends up in dictatorship, but of course that is what the Dems/Left seek: a system where they are permanently in power.

I see a lot of comments about schools dumbing down students. Schools will get away with a tremendous amount as long as they have disinterested / uninterested parents, involved.

I’ve lost count of the comments I’ve seen like yours that always blame the schools and yet mysteriously, mysteriously, they always let the parent slide. We raised 4 boys. My wife and I did, and the both of us raise them just like I, I was raised.

Which included whooping’s, chores before school 🏫, and, after school 🏫… no some folks will say well you had boys. I can assure you of this. If we would’ve had girls, we would have raised them just like my wife was raised. Period. Make zero mistake about that.

One of the biggest mistakes parents have made that we would never do, and we never did do, and that is this…. Make my kid or kids , Our best friends. We not only didn’t do this. We also told our boys that you are not our best friend, got it. We, Meaning me and your mother are each other‘s best friend. Period. Got it sport!

And, more than one time we would have all 4 boys come before us to make sure they all heard it at the same time. “ Not one of you is our best friend. We are each other’s best friend you see standing before you. Make sure you take this back to school with you.

By all means we want you to as a matter of fact, before each of you go to school tomorrow, your mother just whispered to me she’s going to write something out for you to take in tomorrow and show to each one of your teachers.

About how we are each other’s best friend and you boys are not you are our sons, which put you at a level below us. “As your grandfather used to say to me and my brothers, “ where are the parents, you are the kids.

Got it boys?? Nuff said. Got it?

(All 5 of us nodded vigorously, as we said, yep we got daddy!! Yep we got it. Oh we got it!” And we did. And, so did our boys.)

I will say this in closing. If you ever want to develop responsibility in a kid, buy him a Shetland pony to start with. But before you do, make damn good and sure that you tell him he hast to feed it himself. If, If you have to feed it just one time? You will sell it.

He has to clean out his stall every day at the end of the day and put down fresh straw for him to A. Take dumps in 💩. B. Take naps / sleep 💤 in. This is why you have to have a horse stall large enough for a Shetland pony to dump in and also he will find that other corner to lay down in. Shetland ponies and full grown. Horses are a lot smarter than people think. I have actually had first time owners ask me this kind of a question….

And no matter how much he cries and pitches conniption fits, you have to stick to your guns. SELL, IT!! Nothing worse than a weak-ass parent. Sit on your accomplishments for about a week to 10 days.

There’s nothing stopping you from going and buying another one and surprising him with it. Don’t take him or her, to pick out the next one. And when you bring him home, repeat what you said to him before and I guarantee you before you even get through saying it, he will be letting you know that that ain’t about that ever ever ever ever ever happen again!!!

Guess what? It won’t. Trust me on this. It will not, Happen. As a matter of fact, even if he is sick, he will be more afraid of you selling that pony then telling you, Or his mama that he’s so sick he can’t go out and do what he does but he’s afraid daddy will sell him.

Which we would not dare do when a child is sick but that’s just how much responsibility he is now showing. He wants to go but he can’t. And that’s when it’s time to pour on the loving and the mothering.

( Btw, my wife has always said she had rather, much rather have had all boys, then all girls.)

Or, even one or 2 girls. she didn’t want girls!!!! she always told me that girls are much harder to raise than boys are. Furthermore, girls will always run to daddy anytime, Mama wants to discipline them. Or ground them.

But even the girls, if we would’ve had them, she would have raised them, just like she was raised. Both of us grew up here in NW Montana, on sizable farms. Outside of Troy. Today we live over in the YAAK VALLEY. Which the little town of yak has two stores. And it’s 5 miles from the border. The Canadian border we live 2 miles from the Canadian Border.

And it’s easy to find out if you were such a parent. All you have to do is check your memory. If you’ve ever gone back and changed your mind because the crying and all of that got to you. Never did me. Nor did it the wife. She would laugh at the one Crying 😭 😆 I do mean laugh. And you have never seen a kid stop so fast from crying and go to pouting.

Then start saying things like this. “You (sniffles) “you you don wuve mama you don’t!!”

And take my word for this, mothers know well. Scratch that. I take that back. Not all mothers know when to do this. Darinda knew juuuuuuust when to pick-em up as she was talking to him right before, before she picked him up.

And was using soft but very very stern language. And language that she would always get him to agree with saying one word only. Yes or, yea. Or the old tried and true, Uh huh

lol and from then, on which ever one was a little at a time she always knew right when to pick them up and get them to agree with everything she was saying, including when she said,

“and you know there’s times when you act up and out of control, you know that I have to spank that little bottom, don’t you?” Uh huh or a yea or yes would come out lol

He has to clean out his stall every day at the end of the day and put down fresh straw for him to A. Take dumps in 💩. B. Take naps / sleep 💤 in. This is why you have to have a horse stall large enough for a Shetland pony to dump in and also he will find that other corner to lay down in. That’s why I am a strong advocate for simply going ahead and building a “horse size stall.”

Shetland ponies and full grown. Horses are a lot smarter than people think. I have actually had first time owners ask me this kind of a question….

“Won’t he get it all over him if he lays down in it for naptime?” Meaning his turds 💩 Unbelievable. Absolutely unbelievable. I said to myself at the time this question was posed to me.

It is my humble opinion our Constitutional Republic permanently fell during the 2016 presidential election; on July 5 when FBI Director James Comey “exonerated” Hillary Clinton for the illegal server and the thousands of her classified emails. At that point in American history, the “rule of law” in the USA began its demise and because the constitutional provisions for remedy to the ensuing felonious acts and omissions (think FISA Court) of James Comey, (et al) were never pursued; I posit our Constitutional Republic has fallen and is irreparable…... and the 2022 FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago along with the four unconstitutional indictments of Donald J. Trump is my proof - We the People now live in a banana republic.

The Colorado Supreme Court decision is another example of our life or death struggle of facts vs fraud. It is an all out battle between those who are complete storytelling frauds trying to control the world vs. those who seek actual facts, data, science and reason. Why would any sane person believe anything coming from any government, MSM, institution or institutional figure, when they have been shown time and again to be malevolent frauds who have been wrong - either intentionally or ignorantly or both - about absolutely everything they have purported to be true?

My only hope for mankind is the Return of Jesus Christ as King of kings. This quotation from Revelation 18 is profound and enormously timely when you consider the warning to: “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues. For her sins have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities.” “And strong is the Lord who judges her.”

What’s a Christian to you? Be careful. “ he chooses the foolish to confuse the wise.”

1 Corinthians 1:27-31 NIV

But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him.

Now, let’s see what PAUL had to say. The apostle Paul.

What does it mean that God chooses the foolish things to confound the wise?

“Now Paul confirms that God does indeed choose foolish and weak people, as defined by human terms, to come to Him through faith in Christ. Why does God do this? He wants to shame those who consider themselves too wise or strong to believe such a thing.”

They do not believe that there are constraints on judicial "adventurism." So here we go with disqualifying candidates by invoking some version of Moral Turpitude. (That is how democracy was ended in Iran.) Note that the Constitution applies the same standard to supporters of "insurrection". How very convenient. If the arguments of the Colorado Supremes are accepted, the Demos can literally ban almost any Repo from running. They can't get that far for 2024. But if in 2024 they win the House, the Senate, and the White House, allowing them to pack the Supreme Court, they can, and will. Getting rid of elections is a stretch. Getting rid of candidates is not.

It would be remiss not to note that "insurrection" is (or at least about 150 years ago was) a synonym for "rebellion". That is why it was applied to the Civil War, which was also called "the War of the Rebellion". (That is what it was called in the official records.) What happened on Jan 6. was not "insurrection". And no, the phrase "insurrection or rebellion" does not imply a difference of meaning, any more than does "without let or hindrance". Stringing together synonyms, just to cover all bases, is common in legal language.

Expand full comment

There is no unarmed insurrection! When has there ever been an unarmed insurrection? it also defies the definition. They should just stop using that word for January 6 event. It was a riot or a mostly peaceful protest.

The end of this country (and subsequent balkanization of us regions) draws near. The only question is what will be today's version of Ft. Sumpter?

What's happened here is the Colorado State Supreme Court has applied a criminal conviction and penalty to a defendant who has never been charged - who has never stood trial - for a crime the Colorado State Supreme Court has no jurisdiction over. This is utter tyranny and it will lead to violence that is going to be very hard to control.

Sasha, a good follow up to this would be an explainer on what interest group brought this forth in Colorado, and who funds them. That may be well known to Colorado residents, but most of us don’t live there

Colorado SUCKS under Democrat control. It has become a place not worth living in unless you love Deep State control of your life. I live in CO. We know the elections are rigged bc of the Mesa County reports that looked at the data in the voting machines that showed the voting machines have multiple wifi connectors, are totally unsecured and have manipulated past elections (2020 and 2021). This decision just confirms I don't live in a safe place ruled by the Constitution but in a place ruled by power hungry Marxist ideologues who hate America.

Great column, Sasha. This isn't a slippery slope for the Democrats, it's hurtling towards the edge of a steep precipice. What are they going to do when Georgia or North Carolina ban Biden from the ballot for some reason without a conviction? Furthermore, nothing says fascism more than preventing people from voting for who they want.

What would you folks of the authoritarian far-left say if Beijing Biden were barred from the ballots for his treasonous activities?

Would you have the same response?

MLB, there is an attempt to ban a candidate from running for office for frivolous reasons. My Left leaning wife even saw the error in preventing voice to voters who support Trump. It’s okay to agree with that. I can unequivocally state that if R’s were trying to do this to a D, I would also state how wrong it is. Do you BTW recall what D’s did to Bernie in ‘16? That was some strange and wrongful behavior. D’s said it’s their right as a private entity (Dem Party). Now they are overstepping. You know it but can’t help yourself. What a small person you show us to be. Are you even an American citizen?

Well, let’s see.

We’ve proven that you are a LIAR, so are you now going to pretend you’re some sort of centrist or moderate as authoritarian leftists tend to do?

At what point is enough, enough? I'm guessing a big electoral defeat may be enough to do it, but if not, where does this end? If Trump wins big in 2024, do they back off and try to be civil? I doubt it. Kind of like impeaching Trump for a phone call about a corrupt administration that hurt the feelings of the diplomatic community. They are pushing things so far beyond norms, that it's hard to see a return to normalcy.

They have indicted Trump on nearly 100 charges. In GA, there are defendants pleaing to probation and a clean record on charges that they faced decades in prison for. In NY, there's a totally phony "fraud" trial that doesn't allege anyone was defrauded. The FBI raided his home in search of documents that i'm sure were no worse than Joe stored in his Corvette.

The Democrats have become completely unhinged. If this decision is allowed to stand, and the ones in the other states go forward as well, we will sink into civil war. I've always thought that people who say that are exaggerating but I'm beginning to believe it now. This country is a powder keg and the Democrats want it this way.

I CANNOT see SCOTUS holding this up. If states can suddenly decide to remove people for political reasons, then how do we even have a country anymore?

Dems constantly carp about "disenfranchising" this group or that. AS they do EXACTLY that to the millions of Colorado residents who voted for Trump. Its gross and disgusting

Apparently the Colorado Court found that when Trump said, “fight like hell” that was not protected speech. So “fight like hell” gets him thrown off the ballot?

Here in Oregon we have a riff in this, which is a symptom of urban/rural divide. Oregon legislative body is majority D. When in session they can pass what they want in the climate change and culture war front. Some elected Republicans Senate members here have opted to not attend session, prevent a quorum, and therefore no legislation can advance. D’s then passed a law in 2022 (Measure 113 which amended State constitution) stating if elected official doesn’t attend X # of days of session, they are banned from running in next election. This is now playing out, where R’s who prevented quorum want to run again, and are suing to do so. The entire Establishment here is D or leaning D, including the Oregon high court. The voters here in PDX metro area and down to Salem, majority Blue. The case is now in front of Oregon Supreme Court, oral arguments last week:
