"I can tell you as an older woman, you miss it when it goes away, when you stop getting the kind of attention you used to get from men."

That line hit this former hottie right between the crow-feet eyes. Safe travels, Sasha!

Have a great trip, soak up the goodness of America’s soul, enjoy beautiful times with your daughter, and know that you are fighting the good fight and inspiring many of us.

Thank you Sasha.

Another wonderful and insightful post.

I'm confident Elon knows what he got into and how to get out. We're in the midst of a revolution, that most are clueless about, and Elon and some of the Substack authors may very well be the next Founding Fathers.

Hopefully you're driving through Iowa. If you are, try and stop for the night and have a meal at the local diner. You'll meet people who still behave the way this country did 100 years ago......and not in a bad way.

Sasha-

Another completely relatable piece. I’m disappointed Musk is most likely turning Twitter over to someone else but it’s easy to understand why. While Twitter has the potential to be everything everyone imagined, open forum, public square, etc. humans are just too flawed for such a space. You can see, on full display the unfiltered worst part of people. It’s sad BUT what you’re doing now by driving across the country to see your daughter is far more meaningful and relevant.

I was the CFO of a real estate development firm for 25 years. Sometimes I would travel by motorcycle and take long detours to explore some unknown location. I traveled a lot and enjoyed seeing different places. Places all over the world. Often wondering what kept people in the places they stayed and why they made their home there. It still fascinates me.

My son is in Brooklyn too. He stayed in NYC after graduating from Columbia with his masters in public health. He is now one of the far LEFT telling me all about my white privilege, despite me being only half white. Despite him knowing I was the first to the office and last to leave. It’s sad but I love him dearly. We used to travel to NYC over the holidays to go to the theater. Now, nothing could bring me there. My son will visit us for Christmas and we plan to see Avatar in the theater. We’ve always loved movies and it’s always been an integral part of our holidays together.

I envy your relationship with your daughter. I hope you have a wonderful safe trip. I hope you can unplug for a bit and immerse yourself and be completely present in your experience. You’re a talented writer and many of us here are grateful for your talent. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Kwanza, and everything in between.

Sasha, you better think twice or thrice about that drive - you'll be driving into a blizzard! As for Elon Musk, it won't matter if he does "step down" as CEO, he OWNS Twitter outright and no matter who HE names as CEO, they'll answer to him.

It doesn’t take a lot to move me to tears. Both scenes by Pacino and the “cutters” did the trick. I’m truly thankful I can still cry when hearing/seeing messages that are uplifting. Not enough of those these days.

You are a jewel, Sasha.

Thank You, Sasha. Have a safe trip, a wonderful adventure driving cross country. On a related note, in October 2020 (during the height of pandemic insanity)my wife and I made our journey across America after selling our home in Burbank, CA. We had no particular itinerary in mind but decided to stay close to the Red States (when our friends asked us why? we replied "Because that's where FREEDOM is at"). With stops at The Grand Canyon, John Ford's Monument Valley (Magical) and Mount Rushmore, we had The Best Time. We met some terrific people along the way. As a result we both came to have a deeper appreciation for America and are forever grateful for our experiences. Take care, Sasha. Stay Happy. Stay Healthy. Stay FEARLESS.

Curtis Yarvin had a good piece in Compact today. Basically argued that these people are just nihilists who only care about power. They'll do anything for power, say men can get pregnant, whatever. They don't stand for anything else.

Stay safe and indeed enjoy the goodness to be found across the fruited plane!

How 'bout a one paragraph entry for every day of travel? "Here is what I found at the mom and pop diner in Booger Hollow, AR...."

Amazing how you get it all done... The drive, no doubt a time for reflection, but that you can then get much insight and observation down on paper--in your spare time--is a feat to be commended. A worthy 'Chapeau'!

On The Edge:

Seriously, that movie gets a lot of play when everything seems to be coming apart at the seams or I just need a pick me up. It's a phenomenal movie on so many levels. Glad to hear we share that.

"What should we do?! Should we lay down and die?!"

"What one man can do, another can do!"

"And again!"

"What one man can do, another can do!!!"

"Yeah! You're goddamn right...'cause today, I'm going to kill the mo*********r!"

"Never feel sorry for a man who owns a plane."

If you haven't seen The Edge, do yourself a favor. I had a psychology professor play it to show the different stages of grief\denial\anger etc people go through in crazy situations. I'd already seen it about 15 times at that point...I earned an A on that paper.

Also fun note, Robert says "Charles" 113 times in the movie.

Love your story telling about America and the crazies running the show.

Keep writing and we will beat them back and bring America back to a somewhat normal position again in the world.

Sasha, Enjoy the best drive in the world! (and read "Blue Highways" by William Least Heat Moon)

Merry Christmas and Hanukkah sameach!

As a ex-Californian to a Californian, when driving on snow, just go slow, don't brake or accelerate suddenly, don't over react, but always turn INTO the skid. And nobody, but nobody can drive on ice.
