Excellent piece Sasha....as always.

I'm sorry, but I have to keep fighting. We're in the midst of a revolution.

As Chapelle said last week, Trump is an honest liar, who knew xactly what the elites were doing to this society becuse he played in those circles, and was honest enough to call them out and attack them. Bill Barr wrote a piece for Bari Weiss that said if we forsake Trump we can rebuild the Reagan coalition.

Bill was part of the old Reagan coalition, and I watched as it did what Trump did in 2016. It took out an old neocon mindset and took us in a new direction, but that's irrelevent now.

Reagan didn't have a media that was nothing more than a partisan and dishonest mouthpiece for the DNC. He didn't face a weaponized FBI/CIA/IRS/CDC/FDA who fought the legitmacy of the Republican party. He also didn't have an academic class indocritnating students in socialistic/racial/gender cultures at odds with the best interest of the country. In my 65 years I've never witnessed a leader willing to take on the permanent governing class and international elites like Trump. and until I see someone rise to that level of confrontation, maybe DeSantiss can, I'll continue to support him. We're in a revolution, and need someone who's willing to acknowledge and confront that.

What I think is funny -- or sad -- is that they seem to think that people like Paul Ryan or Bill Barr or anyone on the Never Trump side can win over the MAGA crowd with an essay on Bari Weiss' site. That isn't going to cut it. Ron DeSantis I just found out was in the Freedom Caucus so maybe that means he is able to break through.

I'm going to take a screen shot of this, laminate it, and frame it to hang on the wall. Validation from one of my most favorite Substackers!

BTW, I agree totally with your comment about Ryan and Barr. They're from a different time. This isn't the old 'Rep v Dem' battle. This is Citizens v Ruling Class. I respect DeSantis, Tulsi, Youngkin, Abbot and many others in the deep Republican bench, but we still need someone like Trump with leather skin and an absolute drive to give this country back to the people. DeSantis is going to be a two term President, I'd just like to see it be 28-32.

Also, cut Bari some slack, she's still learning the other side. I love that Greenwald, Taibbi, Weiss, you and many others have had an epiphany and are seeing things with fresh eyes. There'll always be room to disagree on policy, but so many on the left still need to see that their old party has given up on personal freedoms in order to claim and retain power. This started with the Clintons, and was exacerbated under Obama and the Chicago mafia.

Agree, and thanks. :)

The Chicago Mafia, what the hell does that even mean?

Love ya, Sasha! Keep up the great work.

I doubt that very many on the Right even read Bari Weiss. I subscribed for a while but then I realized she is more interested in Zionism than Americanism.

Expand full comment

I like her, and respect her fight for our civil liberties. I alos happen to share her views on Zionism, but they're not at the top of my list.

Freedom of Speech and fair elections are the two most important issues for me. I can disagree on most other issues.

I agree with you there Sam, MAGA doesn't read Common Sense. There are websites that are free and way ahead in reporting the truth. I wish Bari Weiss the best on her journey but I have let my subscription go because I feel the writers and the commenters are America's problem. The monied class doesn't suffer like the common folk do and they're too slow to see what is really happening. They do little else but discuss and flatter each other, on Common Sense. Some of the substacks have become financial empires that are vote influencers. The other subscription I have cancelled is The Daily Wire because of Ben Shapiro.

I was blackballed by the establishment GOP in Ohio because I did my job as a government employee and did it well. Most of my colleagues have retired now. We met for lunch recently and commiserated about how terrible things have become and how good people are forced out.

I was a hard worker as a government employee and, before that, as a campaign volunteer. I was a YR and a local leader. Yet now they say that I am not "a good team player." The GOP leadership has more in common with the DNC leadership than it has with ordinary Americans.

Hey Jon, I really liked how you laid the situation and history out. Thanks.

Sasha, thank you for your inspiring words! It makes such a difference to know that there are people who can change their minds, and who seek truth amid all the deafening BS. There are many more out there, thanks for helping to reach them.

Trump is not giving up and neither will I. If he can endure all of this terrible treatment for us...then I can at least stand behind him and support this wonderful soul who will not kiss the ring of any half ass jerk-off just to get along! He will fight the bullies until he can't stand up anymore. Like Jack Dempsey famously said...."A champion is someone that gets up when he can't"

That's the guy that I want fighting for me!

Okay, I read Sasha's column earlier today, then forwarded it to my wife.

She was working on a project in the next room and decided to listen to the podcast.

Holy Shit?!?!

It's an entirely different experience. For those of you who are too impatient to listen to the podcast, I strongly encourage you listen. Sasha incorporates many of the portions of, what may be, Trumps most powerful speech ever. And as a bonus, includes segments from Mr Smith goes to Washington. Awesome!!!!! Excellent job Sasha.

I guess I'm going to start having to listen to more of the podcasts from Matt/Walter, Bari and Sasha.

Thanks Jon. I am trying to make them as podcasts I like listening to with music and clips and such...I should probably try to make it clear that they are different when listening. I haven't figured that out yet.

Maybe make the first post in the thread an introduction and specify that the written version is similar to Cliff Notes, but the podcast is a multi dimensional performance.

Obviously, I'm a big fan, but you're doing something unique in the podcast world.

I'd love to see you on Rogan.

I do think it's Trump's best speech, at least the best one I've heard.

I really can't believe the difference between listening and reading your column. Your editing is masterful.

Grammy worthy, if there was any objectivity from the judges.

Listen and read along. The full immersion. Sasha’s writing is so good and the podcast with music and supporting material/ media is over the top. It’s really an awesome Substack offering. One of the best in my opinion.

Wow this is a pretty depressing essay. Much more gloomy tone than you usually have, almost as if you’re giving up? Regarding the mid-terms, I firmly believe some of the MAGA losses were due to voter fraud. Specifically in Arizona. I just don’t see how Kari Lake lost without cheating. The numbers just don’t add up. Keep an eye on that because I don’t think it’s over. And do you really think there’s no way Trump can win? I admit the odds are against him, but if more truth comes to light in the coming months it will certainly help MAGA. I don’t have any choice but to remain hopeful, the fate of the world literally rests on him winning...

Expand full comment

Can you really say that Trumps odds are worse this time than in 2016? I hardly think so. I think society as a whole sees the last election as it was. Not a referendum of support of Biden and the Dems, but another convoluted and manipulated voting process, combined with a lot of dirty tricks and vote buying. If nothing else, Trump gained credibility in the eyes of actual voters, and with the latest attacks by the DOJ, will continue to get the sympathy of the public.

The key will be, does Trump overplay his hand and become even more buffoonish/Bombastic, or does someone finally figure out how to moderate him so that he can take advantage of the mood of the public.

Only Trump can beat Trump. Please stay with us Sasha.

She lost because she told moderate Republicans to fuck off.

Beautifully written.

I don't know about Trump. I'm Trump ambivalent. No, he is nowhere as bad as they say he is. In fact, he's at least an "honest liar." But in the end, their target was never really Trump. Their target is the uppity working and middle class who don't know their place and they feel should be satisfied with crumbs.

America loves a winner. I didn't see much of that in the mid-terms. But many in America love something else. They love a fighter, someone who gets up time and again after being knocked to the canvass. Trump for all his faults is one such guy and I can't take that away from him. I just wish he was younger and me too for that matter! Thank you for your thoughtful writings. Most others I skim and not read to the end but here I look forward to the results of your thoughts and labor.

First, so glad I subscribed to your podcast for next 12 months. Super value! Second, I really liked how you combined your extensive knowledge of films and the current climate in US. Third, midterms were discouraging for a lot of us who hoped BreD and butter issues would result in conservative wins. Anyway, thank-you for sharing your talents and having the courage to be truthful. I admire that.

The most important story I have read about the Nov 2022 midterms is that the culinary union workers from Nevada, and some recruited from California, in their own words, "knocked on 1 million doors" in Nevada, presumably to harvest ballots for the Democrat Senate and Governor candidates. As Biden, Fetterman, Hobbs have demonstrated, the Democrat candidates do not matter, the election is over long before the now empty ritual of Election Day. Republicans need to concentrate on catching up with, and hopefully surpassing, the Democrat mail-in/early voting, ballot harvesting scam. If the Republicans cannot do this, it makes no difference which Republican candidate runs.

Expand full comment

The candidates do matter. People voted for Fetterman because they agreed with his policies on choice and other issues and the other guy wasn't even from Pennsylvania.

Hobbs won because Lake sought to publicly alienate anyone who wasn't a Trump Republican. If she had toned down her acid tongue spewing bullshit she would have easily won.

Expand full comment

Voting is not a scam I dont care if you disagree, but voting is a fundamental right of this nation.

Expand full comment

If you think that all voting is the same, then you don’t understand ballot harvesting.

Expand full comment

If its legal its valid if you hate that then you hate extreme gerrymandering which is also a state right or rank choice voting.

Expand full comment

Again, I don't think you know what ballot harvesting really is. Yes, it is legal, but it makes a mockery of voting. Something can be valid (i.e., legal) and still be a scam. There are many legal scams out there. I am sure you can come up with quite a few. Just because something is legal doesn't mean it's good for society or democracy.

I'm not a fan of gerrymandering either. Same thing: legal, but makes a mockery of democratic representation. But we weren't talking about that.

Right now, Democrats are better at ballot harvesting, but Republicans will catch up -- probably in 2024. That doesn't mean it's a good thing.

Gerrymandering helps both parties, but that doesn't make it acceptable.

Expand full comment

Its all legal and exploitative GOP do a better job at gerrymandering, ballot harvesting democrats both are wrong but states rights.....

Expand full comment

It is not legal to usurp the role of a state legislature and implement ballot harvesting.

Expand full comment

Its also illegal to ignore courts oh right Ohio did that with their gerrymandering

Does the court have the right to usurp the constitutional role of the legislature in setting the rules for an election? That is about to be decided this term.

My dream ticket is Trump-DeSantis 2024, then Ron in 28 and 32. I got mad when Trump went after DeSantis a couple of weeks ago. If they do go against each other in the primary, they should debate on policy. No stupid personal attacks. Trump was very respectful of Ben Carson in 16 and that's how he should be with DeSantis. He's one of us, not the usual RINO. You don't go dirty on your allies.

Expand full comment

I like that Ron isn't taking the bait, but still think he's too green. I'll be watching him closely over the next two years, but now, I'm back in the Trump camp.

Expand full comment

Man you can write. What a phenomenal read. Here's the thing. Yeah Ron will have the power brokers..because it means he took their money and is beholden to them. No, its got to be trump or nothing. If we lose , we lose with our best fighter.

Nominate DeSantis and they will destroy him just the same. They will play games with ballot harvesting and scanners and mystery suitcases brought out from under tables(on camera in Atlanta). If as you say its hopeless......I want to see how far down the rabbit hole the feds will go to take away our freedoms so that when a fed building blows or something similar, you can say without a guilty conscience "well they had it coming".

Expand full comment

DeSantis is going to be much harder to destroy because he’s so disciplined and speaks so clearly. Trump’s lack of discipline makes him an easy target for the Fascist MSM.

Agreed that DeSantis is by far a better politician but he's going to need money to win which means praying at the altar of neo con money. I dont want a bought and paid for Ron. I really really hope he's the VP. On the ticket.

Please keep chopping wood, Sasha. You hold the mirror up so that these oligarchs and their minions with their degrees, credentials, and complete assumption of power and virtue can see themselves in the light of day.. If, but, they would only look.

Someone will have to give them the full Clockwork Orange treatment to get them to look at this.

Can it happen? Anything is possible.

Will it happen? That depends on all of us, doesn't it?

Are we dealing with people who will at some point stare at a stack of dead babies and profess to see nothing? Only time will tell. Like you, I live in hope. Float, little feather, show me the way.

This post is my favorite Sasha Stone thus far. I listened to it yesterday and woke up thinking about Trump's speech in the rain. I watched the speech again and wept.

In my youth I rode bulls, played football, participated in many fist fights, had my experiences with guns and - after living through all that - started my own business which has died and come back to life a half dozen times over the last thirty years. I know a little bit about courage. When I look at Trump, I am awestruck by the courage that flows through his veins. He is the most courageous man I have ever seen and I love him. He is a leader you can trust to keep us safe. He's been the greatest President of my lifetime.

Meanwhile, the mob that is trying to tear him apart are the hateful, the jealous, the corrupt, and, most notably, the effete of our nation. The Mitt Romneys and Paul Ryans of America. The Anderson Coopers and Chuck Todds who've never been in a brawl. Men who contain no true manliness in their entire being.

Sasha, your use of Mr. Smith and the scenes you picked are perfect... absolutely perfect. Thank you for this post. Thank you for your own great courage. And thank you for giving voice to exactly what is in my own heart.

Interesting. This was probably my least favorite of Sasha’s posts. Kind of sounded like she was giving up on Trump because the odds are too heavily stacked against him and he’s attacked from every angle, so we should back DeSantis instead because he’s more “electable”. But maybe I misinterpreted...

I don't know. I think if you want to beat the Democrats DeSantis might be the guy. They seem to be able to run with a media narrative using Trump to scare voters away. They have so much power and so much reach -- I don't know if that is something Trump can overcome. But I also don't know if they can win without MAGA either.

Expand full comment

DeSantis hasn't been vetted yet. We don't know that he can make it. Nor do we know that he is MAGA from a trade and foreign policy perspective.

It's a conundrum; I doubt 16 of the 17 R candidates could have beaten Hillary in 2016. Romney couldn't beat Obama. The Establishment hates Trump's policies but they can't beat him with their own policies. MAGA loves the policies and they understand that only a Trump like personality can take the hits that will most assuredly come

Ditto Jon below. As a Goldwater supporter in a blue color neighborhood, LBJ's great society, was the beginning decline of America, then there was only one choice, Ronald Reagan. We are in much bigger trouble today as a country. I will stay strong for Trump, and if DeSantis wins the primaries, I will support him, but I will stand with a winner, even when the elections are rigged.

My position as well. The left has stopped trying to come up with platforms that will get them votes and instead is cocentrating on manipulating elections to get sufficient votes to stay in power.
