Did the media call the vote too early? And did they call it early so people wouldn't show up?

After the last 20 years I put nothing past the media arm of the UniParty who hates Trump; Fox did call Arizona way early in 2020 et al.

As Molly Ball told us in 2021, they had to 'secure' things...

Sasha, for those that did show up, near 70% (CNN Entrance Poll) stated they think the last 2020 POTUS election was rigged.

https://www.cnn.com/2023/08/03/politics/cnn-poll-republicans-think-2020-election-illegitimate/index.html

Gonna be interesting see this same poll for each State going forward, provided CNN has the balls to keep reporting this. This is an in-person poll so much more reliable than over phone or text.

The Establishment has a real big problem. Huge swaths of the country don’t believe Basement Biden got 80M votes. And in 2020 swing states, there’s evidence of more votes cast than registered.

This is going to poison the 2024 vote. Like the Fonz, the Establishment jumped the shark.

Expand full comment

If they called it at 7:30 central, they weren’t doing it on the basis of ANY actual votes. Every caucus in the state began at 7 PM, and there’s a set amount of routine business to go through before voting begins. Larger caucuses in the cities take longer. I don’t see how the quickest rural precincts could have been reporting any results to Des Moines before 7:45.

On the other hand, I don’t see how too-early calling of the contest could have affected the results. Everyone who wanted to vote was already at the sites, in the room, and casting their votes at the time of the announcement. Early calling did not depress turnout because this is not an all-day process like Election Day. It’s a 90-minute process occurring at 1,500 sites statewide all at once.

Expand full comment

Actually some were called within a half hour.

Expand full comment

It says it was called 8:32 ET. is that considered early? I don’t know.

It’s a huge victory. I guess polls can be right sometimes.

Probably but if so it backfired as Trump generates more enthusiasm than Ron! or Tricky Nikki. Media gets all their schemes from Acme.

Of course, they called it early. The entire campaign season has been a psyop with voter suppression and interference. How can people not see the system wants Trump to be the nominee? Tonight is as bad as 2020 and 2022. This was the last stand for the Right. They had a consequential choice tonight and chose idolatry, ego, revenge, grift, marketing, gaslighting, celebrity, and the big spectacle. We lose. America is done.

Apologies if I struck a nerve. Don’t need to resort to name-calling though John, that does cheapen your words. Sure, I agree Trump got some things wrong in his first go around. He totally underestimated his MIC/Establishment opposition when he uttered these words of truth from 2016 S.C. debate stage:

https://youtu.be/1VZGucSkq_A?si=BEV4g7HR-NZ7VI3G

Then yes, he made some crap hires. He was unaware how deep the rot was/is. But he showed me that he was the first POTUS in 5/6 decades to stand up to China, not start any new wars, and try to do something about our porous southern border. I also watched the entire system try to take him out. When that happened I saw that he struck fear to the Administrative State. And if he made them fearful, why is that?

My hope is that Trump can get reelected, and he gains Congress of the same party. Then I want to see him try to dismantle a small insignificant 3 letter government agency. Show our country it (reducing size of government) can be done. If not, we’re on a slow slide to a disintegrating Republic. Our government has gotten too big, too powerful. It’s going to slowly take away our freedoms & liberties in the name of (public health, public safety, ect) Bureaucracies can’t help it but to continue to grow.

Expand full comment
founding

Yep, he got stuff wrong, but I think he got played on Covid and on the level of corruption in the federal government. Appealing to his ego works too. I’m still going to vote for him, he will be laser focused on end the rule by elites in this country. IMO, it’s the biggest threat to our country.

Expand full comment

Barring a miracle, I see no scenario where an electable Republican is nominated. The only exception is if the left splits, and RFK, Manchin and West siphon off enough votes from Biden. That is not entirely impossible because of Biden's complicity in the Gaza genocide.

Expand full comment

DeSantis has higher favorability numbers. He won his state by 19% while others underperformed or lost. There is no genocide in Gaza btw.

Expand full comment

Who is the Right and what is the Trap?

Expand full comment

Right = conservatives/liberty-minded. Trap: the system wants Trump to be the GOP nominee for three reasons: they can beat him because he’s upside down with independents, who decide elections; the system fears DeSantis more than Trump because he is fearless and continually defeats communists and their woke destructive policies; and they have a plan to eliminate Trump. His DC show trials begins the day before Super Tuesday. The media will cover that 24/7 (not the campaign or the contrast between candidates and the misery). When he is convicted by a jury from pool that voted nearly single digits for trump with a corrupt judge they can start taking him off ballots in swing states (testing it now with CO, ME). 52% of Repubs said they won’t vote a candidate who has been convicted. Even if Trump makes it to the Supreme Court, his and our fate will rest with the political John Roberts and squishes Kavanaugh and Barrett - but by then, the damage has been done. When all that chaos happens, we are left scrambling. When all along we could’ve just supported the guy who embodies everything we wanted in a leader and candidate. But hey, keep worshipping the showman. How’s that worked out for us? How was that Red Wave? One person has his own personal red wave…that was Ron DeSantis.

Expand full comment

You're right. It's been disconcerting if not traumatizing to see all of the idiocy, embodied in people who think, "Let's Go, Brandon!" epitomizes clever slogan making.

I have not been able to understand how DeSantis has not been able to break through except by admitting to myself that the people who should be thinking carefully and hard about the future of the country are too childish to do it.

Expand full comment

Exactly. I don’t think people understand the gravity of this night. We’re done. It’s just a matter of preparing our families for the collapse and increased tyranny. I had a feeling the Maga Showman would be the death of the party and by extension our country. He’d rather burn it down for satisfy his ego.

Expand full comment

The failure to break through is a function of who his backers are. If you look at the money, he is Jeb! 2.0. Since he has underperformed, that money is drifting to Haley. They like her better anyway since she doesn't conceal the neo-con warmongering like Ron! does.

Expand full comment

You have to be something of a political obsessive to know this stuff, and I haven't got the belly for it.

Unfortunately for DeSantis, he doesn't have Trump's money, so if you're right about his money sources, he hasn't had much choice.

Unfortunately for those of us who do still have a vague hope of keeping the nation, Trump is a malignant narcissist who hasn't matured emotionally beyond the level of a 12 year old boy. The culture was already one of toxic vulgarity. Trump only made it worse.

Ask yourself why Trump, as just one example of his stunning lack of seriousness, didn't seal the border. He could have, you know. The President is Commander - in - Chief. Why didn't he order troops to the border? No, they didn't need to use live ammunition. The threat of water cannons and rubber bullets would have served very well.

That's just one thing. What happened to the equalizing of the tax structure which was implicit in his 2016 campaign?

That's another.

If you would like to see how a genuine national leader behaves, go to YouTube and watch President Kennedy's speech about Medicare at Madison Square Garden, in 1962. There was a man.

Trump is a brat and a ninny. Serious people should regard him with contempt. But that's my point.

We're not a serious country anymore.

Pundits wonder why Republican voters think the last election was stolen? Well it’s quite easy to explain. In 2020 swing states, there were more votes recorded than registered voters. This has come out via audits months after the election. This is fact that our MSM media ignores. By ignoring this, it is also why any conviction of Trump on charges that would never see light of day if he was not running for POTUS - will not matter to most Republican voters when they go to polls. Lie on a POTUS election and you have lost all credibility. Me thinks the Establishment is hoping that they can secure a Trump conviction somewhere very blue (like District of Columbia) and then shower the airways w/ negative Trump narrative in an attempt to siphon off enough votes to make up for all the new Black & Hispanic voters who are joining the Trump train.

If one of or the most conservative state chooses Trump, who has moved to the left of RD and has zero chance of winning a general, then other states are likely to follow. Trump isn’t the best candidate (I can list reasons why). RD is the only candidate that actually DOES the maga and continually racks up wins against the communists. This MAGA/Populist voter will be voting on a different plane than you. I'm looking at a much bigger picture. For me, if you don't stand by Trump, you're perilously close to being anti-Western civilization.

Expand full comment

Horseshit. I am a REAL conservative, as is DeSantis. Trump is not. He can't answer a simple question like "Can a man become a woman?" "Doesn't remember" giving that little cockroach Fauci and his fraudulent friends a Presidential award on his last day in office. Signed an anti-2A bill and was going to sign another (red flag), which he vocally supported until he got talked out of it at the last minute over his re-election prospects if he did. Big picture is Trump is a malignant narcissist who only cares about being adored. By whom doesn't matter, so he is easily manipulated and a Democrat at heart. There's no other explanation for how many ways he's caved to them. He's even backed off of his pro-life position, and promised to outspend Biden in Ukraine. And he deported fewer illegals than Obama. Aside from not starting any new wars, opening up pipelines and reading off a list for SCOTUS nominations, what has he done for us? 2020 was a disaster under his watch, and the culmination of his awful appointments..

I don't disagree with most of what you wrote here. However, DeSantis doesn't appear that he would be able to beat Biden. The polls were pretty accurate. Given that, in the aftermath of the Red Ripple, we were told that "polling is broken", that was not supposed to happen. But closer examination (by some writer at RCP, not me) reveals that the blunting of the Red Wave was largely limited to swing states with very competitive races. It seems that all hoopla increased turnout, which always benefits Demos. (That makes more sense than views on abortion, which should have been picked up in the polling we all saw.) So if "broken" polling could speak, perhaps it would quote Mark Twain: "Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated."

Expand full comment

I forgot to include the Missing Link: polling was not adjusted for increased turnout due to increased interest ("hoopla"). Polling always makes assumptions about turnout, and those assumptions can easily be wrong, as they were in the "Blue Wall" states in 2016.
