Barr also did the double jeopardy thing with Federal charges in the Rodney King case. Did a repeat in the kangaroo court trial of Derek Chauvin. Thoroughly evil man.
The cops that thumped Rodney King were tried and acquitted in state court after the jury saw the entire video instead of the clips the media had on a loop tape. Barr then filed Federal civil rights charges for the same offense and got a conviction with a different jury. The Federal law was designed for a situation where the local authorities either refused to act or conducted a sham trial as did occur in the South in that era. This was clearly not the case in CA in the 90s but Barr did it anyway. Fast forward to 2020. Barr is AG again. Given the weakness of the case against Chauvin, there were discussions about a plea bargain but one of Chauvin's conditions was no Federal charges. Barr wouldn't do the deal so no plea bargain. In the end of course, the misconduct of judge, jury and prosecutor was enough to get a state conviction and then the Federal charges were piled on top. Chauvin was then stabbed in a Federal prison by a former? FBI informant. In order to see justice done, there will have to be an overturning of the state verdict and a Federal pardon.

I made note of it in my journal several days before it happened - saying he needed 24 7 vigilant watch and protection because of impending suiciding.
