I know that stretch of road very well.

Watch for ice til Columbus.

Go around 465 on the North side of Indy, not South side.

Fuel up in Indiana just before Ohio.

If you don't have heavy winter clothing, a heavy blanket, a gallon of water, and rations, stop and buy some.

You never know when a car might fail.

Most important - keep head, feet, hands, and torso covered & warm.

I'll be praying for you.

* You're right about the tough comment. Welcome to the Midwest in winter.

God bless,

Mac Thompson

Bismarck, ND (Formerly of Indiana)

Q: "What's for Christmas dinner?"

A: "Effing Ham."

Warmth to all ten feet and safety to all.

Effingham, Ill is kinda funny name and seemingly poetic :D. Best wishes on your full journey. More are rooting for you than you might expect.

I think that California still has a stash of “tough” people of which you seem to be one as evidenced by your writing-daring to take a different road, far from the echo chamber that most Californians do not travel. Just do not take a different road while driving today that you are not absolutely certain of as we look forward to your writings in the future. Merry Christmas!

You are a brave lady in many ways...least of all is making this trip alone!

Merry Christmas Sasha!

Minus 32 on the feels-like thermometer! Wowzer. On Monday it only reached about 45 here in SF and I was miserable, lol.

At least your daughter will see you for Christmas. Mine won’t, because my son has a mental illness causing him to identify as a tootsie roll or some such and she expects me to call him a tootsie roll, which I refuse to do, so she has cancelled me! So for the first time in my 54yo life I won’t be with blood family for Christmas - but I will be with ppl who love me on a raw milk dairy farm in the middle of the state, where it will be 63 and mainly sunny on Christmas Day. :-)

Who knew that hams liked to eff? Be keerful on the highways and byways!

"They should be taught that they have to be strong enough to survive this world because it will crush them otherwise." Yes, yes, and yes again. Take care, Sasha, and thank goodness for your off-road rental Christmas miracle!!

Sasha,

That is Effing cold in Effingham!

I didn’t catch that you had 2 dogs before, which adds more of a challenge to your winter expedition.

If you like audio books, I’d recommend you hold off on Into Thin Air or Call Of The Wild until you get home. Or go ahead because you sure have grit.

I’d br happy to buy you a warm beverage when you reach NYC.

You Rock!

-15 F this morning in east central Minny - time to don a hoodie...

You are tough stuff, Sasha. Weak people absolutely cannot admit they were wrong about things. You have the wisdom and strength to re-evaluate things as they are.

PS... The Left thinks Man is perfectible. That belief has led to communists and fascists murdering over 100M people in the 20th century. Just review our 'elites' behavior(both sides) through the Trump years. Creepy stuff.

Merry Christmas to all!

Stanford forgot we're not all biologists and therefore unable to positively identify how to refer to anyone as an entitled or demanding white "woman." Stay warm and kiss the pups!
