Thanks be to God and jurors with both a brain and a heart. Penny deserves a gold medal and compensation for what he has been put through.

If Kamala would have won in November, Penny would have been convicted. There has been a shift in the Force however, and those jurors understood that.

Expand full comment

I'm not sure Kamala's victory would have made that much of a difference. What I suspect did make a difference is how much the jurors used the NY subway system. Anyone who has ridden the subway over the past several years knows the system is less safe, and they may have decided enough is enough.

Or the Brains simply won out over the Feelings -- for once.

Perhaps it’s both. Would you want to be a juror who doubled down on Bragg stupidity? The names of jurors would be made known and their lives negatively altered if they had convicted. Enough of them licked their fingers, put it to the air and said ‘no thanks’ to that.

I fear that life-alteration may be in the cards either way. To be on that jury was to have a tiger by the tail. I pray that they don't get bitten.

Well, it’s not over yet for him. There is still the civil suit by Neeley’s absentee father, which could cost Penny millions of dollars he does not really have.

Expand full comment

This decision practically neutralizes the civil suit. Particularly since Neely's "father" was little more than a sperm donor who could never convince anyone that his biological son's death deprived him (the father) of Neely's future earnings or companionship.

THAT ship sailed with this wonderful acquittal.

Expand full comment

I hope you are right and the state probably needs to recoup the funds they gave to his Mother for the lack of fathers paying child support, etc., Wouldn't that be the biggest laugh of the century? Talk about a classic blackfire on spermy daddy. AKA baby daddy (eye roll)

Expand full comment

I don’t think so. OJ’s acquittal didn’t stop the civil suit against (although in that case, the acquittal was a travesty).

Expand full comment

The biggest hurdle for a civil lawsuit by Neeley's father will be the willingness of a civil litigation attorney to sue someone lacking substantial assets.

OJ had $$$. I doubt Mr. Penny would be an attractive target.

Expand full comment

Time will tell. The civil suit is obviously absurd, but would rely on the same racial tropes as the criminal case — something that has been extremely lucrative in the past (Ben Crump).

But even if the case doesn’t make it to court, there will be substantial costs and upset to Penny for as long as they pursue it. Plus, Penny’s defense fund contains $millions, although I’m not sure how much has already been spent, nor whether the terms of the donations would allow it to be applied to a civil suit.

So Penny has plenty of hardship yet to come.

Oh, and OJ never paid, even though he was “rich”. Neeley’s money grubbing family could actually get more from Penny than the families did from OJ. Maybe now that he’s dead they could see part of what he owed them: https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2024-04-17/goldman-family-could-see-money-from-o-j-simpson-trust

Expand full comment

I don't know about that. Both Ron Goldman's and Nicole Simpson's extended families were close with their murdered children and could logically claim to have been deprived of their companionship and future earnings.

Neeley's father was demonstrably not a presence in his child's life or home, and his child's "career choices" were anything but promising. We'll see.

I encourage all veterans to not intervene on defending civilians in urban areas because they vote Dem overwhelmingly, they hate whites by default and will let the local DA, cops and judges ruin your life like they just did to Penny. He was found not guilty after they ruined his life. Fuck them all. Let them get their ass kicked and sent to the hospital on their mostly peaceful subway systems.

I find the outrage by BLM and the family of Jordan Neeley to be radical racist using skin color alone to determine guilt. Where was the family when their son needed mental health support? The family let him spin out on the street and didn't care enough to get him help....hold him accountable for his poor choices, and if being arrested and locked up was the best option for Jordan let him be. This is not about race, it's about feeling safe and doing what is right. Racial identity politics is disgusting.

Expand full comment

And also...where was the state when he was being arrested? He needed mental health treatment..and that is why he died...but let's blame a good samaritan.

I am so sick of the news reporting that “Penny, who is white, and Neely, who is black”…yada, yada, yada.

Expand full comment

Well, it IS about race: if Penny had been black like Jordan Williams, Penny’s charges would have been dropped, too. The cases were stunningly similar; yet only the White guy was charged and put on trial.

Next you’ll say it’s even possible that blacks can be racist.

“Racial identity politics is disgusting.”

And also profoundly socially destructive yet the Democratic Party and their msm have used it for years to demonize “Whiteness!” to gain political support plus it is a core belief of the Woke white left which many pick up from the schools and universities they’ve attended. “Systemic racism” is very real in our society but it’s not against blacks, it’s against whites.

"Celebrate Diversity!"

Whatever happened to Yugoslavia?. Tossed babies caught on bayonets (Bosnia), eyes gouged out with spoons (Kosovo). Diversity in Action! Maybe if we just wag our fingers more vigorously ...

My father was a (secondary) academic expert on how division in the neutral sense leads to division in the negative sense. There is no way around it. The recent DEI study put out by the University of Michigan just re-proves a point that does not need to keep being re-proven. The evolutionary basis fir "out-group hostility" is clear: among mammals that live in groups, beating up on other groups is one of the best ways to out-reproduce the competition. (See: Darwin.) That is why groups seek (within reason) to be *larger*. "Divisionist" ideology is founded on ignorance.

While his family is inciting violence perhaps they should reflect on how Jordan Neely's life became what it was. Perhaps they could have cared for him, gotten him mental health care , brought him to Christ. Perhaps his father could have manned up and raised the boy. They have no one but themselves to blame for the destruction of Jordan's life. And like vultures they circled his carcass for the love of money.

This case isn't about hate of black people, it's about lack of accountability on Jordan's part his families part and the Justice system that didn't intervene in the other 42 crimes he committed prior. Being arrested and jailed may have resulted in getting him off drugs and getting the mental health care he desperately needed. Society did him no favors by allowing him to degrade into what he became and neither did his family.

That the family is allowed to invite violence against the rest of society is unacceptable.

"That the family is allowed to invite violence against the rest of society is unacceptable."

It's called "equity." And yes, it is unacceptable.

Expand full comment

The family feels guilt and shame for neglecting Jordan while he was alive and needed help the most. They are deflecting their feelings by trying to make their neglect an issue of race.

You're a lot more charitable than I am. I think the family just sees the big bucks that they think are beckoning.

I believe in American Exceptionalism and the Great Experiment our incredibly wise Founders laid out. But--news like this gives me hope and also the realization: America is tremendously strong and you know why? We survived 12 years of Obama / Biden / Harris and we are coming out of it even stronger and more robust and resilient. Impressive...
