I should have written in this piece that I didn't mean to suggest standing by Israel was "the right thing to do." Whether I think it is or not doesn't matter. I was making the point that speaking to the public at a time of crisis was the right thing to do. Just wanted to add that. Also, this is the song at the end (Rolling Stone cover tune by https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yV54ueDutkE)

I see no reason to stand with Hamas or hesitate to stand with Israel. Hamas sought hand to hand combat with babies in day care and opportunities to gang rape and murder girls at a peace concert. Hamas killed over 1200 men, women and children, then took over 240 hostages, including some Americans. Then Hamas hid in 300 to 400 miles of tunnels, while providing no bomb shelters at all for their civilian population.

Under the laws of war, attacking military targets is legal, no matter how many civilian shields they're wrapped in. Hamas locates military targets in, near or under schools, hospitals and mosques. Then Hamas "health officials" multiply civilian casualties by 10 and report them to a gullible press. Don't buy into it.

Marxist anti-colonialists claim Jews have no right to the Holy land, as if Jews haven't been there for 3500-4000 years. If indigenous starts in 1948, I'm an indigenous American.

Feminists and LGBTQs for Palestine make no sense at all. Hamas beats feminists and executes LGBTQs.

Iran doesn't hate the US because of Mosaddegh's overthrow in the 1950's. That's malarky. And the British were major players in the overthrow, because Mosaddegh nationalized British oil holdings in Iran.

Mosadeggegh wasn't such an exemplary advocate of democracy either. At the start of his rule, Mosaddegh introduced a single-clause bill to parliament to grant him emergency "dictatorial decree" powers for six months to pass "any law he felt necessary for obtaining not only financial solvency, but also electoral, judicial, and educational reforms." That law was in force for 6 months. Mosaddegh then asked for an extension in January 1953, successfully pressing Parliament to extend his emergency powers for another 12 months.

Finally, in any brutality contest between the Shah and the Mullahs, the Mullahs come out as the most brutal ever. Their suppression of religious minorities is legendary for its brutality. There's no excuse for daily prayers for "Death to America." I can't even post Death to the Mullahs of Iran on X, because it violates their violence policy.

We overthrew their duly elected president. You say he deserved it. The Iranians feel we had no right to do that and I agree. We installed the Shah who was worse than the president we overthrew. The Iranians feel we had no right to do that and I agree. The fact that the Mullahs turned out worse than the Shah doesn’t justify our interference in their elections. And how about Iraq? I worked (CNC machinery) for many years with Assyrians from Iraq in Chicago who said our invasion was like a tsunami that destroyed their country. One Assyrian once told me “All of Iraq is ruined.” How awful. As bad as things were under Saddam they were far worse after he was gone.

Expand full comment

At the time of the revolution in 1979 in Iran, many of the Shah’s opponents were leftists, people who had supported Mossadegh. After the Mullahs got control of the regime, they killed or exiled all the leftists very quickly. In fact, in 1953, the American involvement in Mossadegh’s overthrow was to mobilize the Mullahs and their Shiite supporters against Mossadegh. So it is pretty rich that leftists attribute the Mullahs’ anti-Americanism to America’s involvement with their overthrow of Mossadegh.

That whole part of the world is horrible. I was once talking to a woman who said she was Assyrian. I said I worked with a lot of Assyrians from Iraq and asked her if she also was from Iraq. She said she grew up here but her parents were from Iran. I told one of the Assyrians at work about this and said I was surprised there were Assyrians in Iran. He said when the Turks were killing the Armenians they also started killing the Assyrians who are also Christian so the Assyrians fled to wherever they could find safety and some ended up in Iran. I told him his people have a terrible history and he said “Oh yes! Very terrible!” No denying our fallen world is a deadly place full of evil but we also have many beautiful things here so it’s not all bad.

Norman Finkelstein? He’s been an insane anti-Israel activist for thirty years. There’s no genocide in Gaza. There are five or six million Palestinians. Killing 20,000 civilians in the middle of a war that Hamas started hardly constitutes genocide. Every one of those who accuse Israel of genocide denies Israel the right to defend its borders. Even after the slaughter of October 7th, Hamas continue to shoot thousands of missile’s at Israel’s civilians. No nation on earth would tolerate that. The US and the USSR probably killed at least 500,000 German civilians during WW2. Was that genocide?

“Six months into the war in Gaza, everyone seems to be losing.”

“Israel's war in the Gaza Strip has killed more than 33,000 people, most of them women and children, according to the Palestinian enclave’s health ministry. Israel says it has two primary aims: to free the remaining 130 mostly Israeli hostages; and to destroy the Hamas militant group that led the attack on Oct. 7, a goal that critics say is too ambitious or impossible.”

“Meanwhile Israel has become increasingly isolated internationally, with even its closest ally, the United States, demanding that it do more to help protect Palestinian civilians in Gaza, where more than 1 million people are now thought to be on the brink of famine. Israel’s killing of seven aid workers has put that global condemnation into overdrive, with prominent voices in Europe and the U.S. now calling for the suspension of arms sales.”

“There is no victor in this kind of war,” said Yossi Mekelberg, an associate fellow at Chatham House, a London-based think tank. “The situation in Gaza is catastrophic in every sense of the word, and yet Israel is getting more embroiled — in Gaza, but also Iran. Then there’s the hostages: God knows how many of them are still alive. Meanwhile Israel is really pushing itself into becoming a pariah state.”

Perhaps at some point, when enough Palestinian flags are flying in our country, you will be able to say “standing by Israel is the right thing to do”.

Whether you “think it is or not” actually does matter. Not “standing by Israel” is standing by Hamas/Iran.

Standing by Israel IS the right thing to do. Palestine NEVER EXISTED until Israel was given nationhood based on their historical rights to that small sliver of land in the ME, and they are the ONLY nation in the ME to share biblical beliefs to LIFE, LIBERTY & GOD GIVEN FREEDOM. "In 2011, Newt Gingrich said “The Palestinians are an invented people.” He was right. So why are they entitled to a state?

In 1964, the Palestine Liberation Organization was formed to liberate Palestine through armed struggle. But it took years for the notion of a Palestinian people to crystalize. In 1967, they were not recognized as such, nor were they considered a party to the conflict. Of course, I can't verify the authenticity of this and I can think of at least 4 players who might have an interest in promoting fake news. But it does make the valid point that Hamas is the very worst that the Palestinians have to offer.

One thing that everyone on both sides of the dispute has ignored or missed is that about 1/3 of the aid package for "Israel" (9/26) actually went to Hamas ,er humanitarian aid. I have seen nothing about how this is to be administered but the history of the USG, the UN and the various NGOs in such matters tells me there is no way that the primary beneficiary will be not be Hamas. So we are funding both sides but not our side (the border). When you fund both sides, the point is to keep the war going. I assume that the goal is to tie this war to yet another funding package for Ukraine. Worked like a charm the last time. Or perhaps it may to further the Color War against Israel by the US IC to get a regime more subservient to the US.

Expand full comment

“The only reason you don’t call what Israel is doing genocide is because it’s Jews killing Goy.”

I don’t see it as Jews killing Goy. I see it as Judaism being hijacked by Zionism which believes God gave Israel to the Jewish people 2500 years ago and therefore the land belongs to them and the pesky Palestinians just have to get out. Even many of the protesters here are Jewish and are appalled by what Israel is doing whereas Evangelical Christians like Mike Johnson have no problem with it and very much want to help the Zionists get rid of the Palestinians.

You consider Palestinians savage animals who need to be destroyed. I don’t. I consider them people trapped in a nightmare orchestrated by Israel which has become sociopathic and demonic.

The "Zionists" exited Gaza in 2005, forcibly removing those Jews who wanted to stay. "Land for peace" you know.

In gratitude, the Gazan Arabs launched thousands of rockets into Israel over the next couple of years. The Gazans also trashed the economic capital (e.g. commercial greenhouses) the Jews had left behind in hopes that the Gazans would benefit from their use.

The Gazans also took tens (hundreds?) of $billions of aid from Western countries and used it not for economic development but to prepare for their next attempt to annihilate Israel.

Your "orchestration" is all Hamas's doing, and they were voted into power by their fellow Gazans.

Israel would do well to recall what General Curtis LeMay said following World War II: "I'll tell you what war is. You have to kill people. When you've killed enough, they stop fighting."

In short, The "Palestinians," as a group, have ***earned** every bit of lethal misery anyone would choose to inflict upon them.
