I should have written in this piece that I didn't mean to suggest standing by Israel was "the right thing to do." Whether I think it is or not doesn't matter. I was making the point that speaking to the public at a time of crisis was the right thing to do. Just wanted to add that. Also, this is the song at the end (Rolling Stone cover tune by https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yV54ueDutkE)

I see no reason to stand with Hamas or hesitate to stand with Israel. Hamas sought hand to hand combat with babies in day care and opportunities to gang rape and murder girls at a peace concert. Hamas killed over 1200 men, women and children, then took over 240 hostages, including some Americans. Then Hamas hid in 300 to 400 miles of tunnels, while providing no bomb shelters at all for their civilian population.

Under the laws of war, attacking military targets is legal, no matter how many civilian shields they're wrapped in. Hamas locates military targets in, near or under schools, hospitals and mosques. Then Hamas "health officials" multiply civilian casualties by 10 and report them to a gullible press. Don't buy into it.

Marxist anti-colonialists claim Jews have no right to the Holy land, as if Jews haven't been there for 3500-4000 years. If indigenous starts in 1948, I'm an indigenous American.

Feminists and LGBTQs for Palestine make no sense at all. Hamas beats feminists and executes LGBTQs.

Iran doesn't hate the US because of Mosaddegh's overthrow in the 1950's. That's malarky. And the British were major players in the overthrow, because Mosaddegh nationalized British oil holdings in Iran.

Mosadeggegh wasn't such an exemplary advocate of democracy either. At the start of his rule, Mosaddegh introduced a single-clause bill to parliament to grant him emergency "dictatorial decree" powers for six months to pass "any law he felt necessary for obtaining not only financial solvency, but also electoral, judicial, and educational reforms." That law was in force for 6 months. Mosaddegh then asked for an extension in January 1953, successfully pressing Parliament to extend his emergency powers for another 12 months.

Finally, in any brutality contest between the Shah and the Mullahs, the Mullahs come out as the most brutal ever. Their suppression of religious minorities is legendary for its brutality. There's no excuse for daily prayers for "Death to America." I can't even post Death to the Mullahs of Iran on X, because it violates their violence policy.

We overthrew their duly elected president. You say he deserved it. The Iranians feel we had no right to do that and I agree. We installed the Shah who was worse than the president we overthrew. The Iranians feel we had no right to do that and I agree. The fact that the Mullahs turned out worse than the Shah doesn’t justify our interference in their elections. And how about Iraq? I worked (CNC machinery) for many years with Assyrians from Iraq in Chicago who said our invasion was like a tsunami that destroyed their country. One Assyrian once told me “All of Iraq is ruined.” How awful. As bad as things were under Saddam they were far worse after he was gone.

Expand full comment

At the time of the revolution in 1979 in Iran, many of the Shah’s opponents were leftists, people who had supported Mossadegh. After the Mullahs got control of the regime, they killed or exiled all the leftists very quickly. In fact, in 1953, the American involvement in Mossadegh’s overthrow was to mobilize the Mullahs and their Shiite supporters against Mossadegh. So it is pretty rich that leftists attribute the Mullahs’ anti-Americanism to America’s involvement with their overthrow of Mossadegh.

That whole part of the world is horrible. I was once talking to a woman who said she was Assyrian. I said I worked with a lot of Assyrians from Iraq and asked her if she also was from Iraq. She said she grew up here but her parents were from Iran. I told one of the Assyrians at work about this and said I was surprised there were Assyrians in Iran. He said when the Turks were killing the Armenians they also started killing the Assyrians who are also Christian so the Assyrians fled to wherever they could find safety and some ended up in Iran. I told him his people have a terrible history and he said “Oh yes! Very terrible!” No denying our fallen world is a deadly place full of evil but we also have many beautiful things here so it’s not all bad.

Norman Finkelstein? He’s been an insane anti-Israel activist for thirty years. There’s no genocide in Gaza. There are five or six million Palestinians. Killing 20,000 civilians in the middle of a war that Hamas started hardly constitutes genocide. Every one of those who accuse Israel of genocide denies Israel the right to defend its borders. Even after the slaughter of October 7th, Hamas continue to shoot thousands of missile’s at Israel’s civilians. No nation on earth would tolerate that. The US and the USSR probably killed at least 500,000 German civilians during WW2. Was that genocide?

“Six months into the war in Gaza, everyone seems to be losing.”

“Israel's war in the Gaza Strip has killed more than 33,000 people, most of them women and children, according to the Palestinian enclave’s health ministry. Israel says it has two primary aims: to free the remaining 130 mostly Israeli hostages; and to destroy the Hamas militant group that led the attack on Oct. 7, a goal that critics say is too ambitious or impossible.”

“Meanwhile Israel has become increasingly isolated internationally, with even its closest ally, the United States, demanding that it do more to help protect Palestinian civilians in Gaza, where more than 1 million people are now thought to be on the brink of famine. Israel’s killing of seven aid workers has put that global condemnation into overdrive, with prominent voices in Europe and the U.S. now calling for the suspension of arms sales.”

“There is no victor in this kind of war,” said Yossi Mekelberg, an associate fellow at Chatham House, a London-based think tank. “The situation in Gaza is catastrophic in every sense of the word, and yet Israel is getting more embroiled — in Gaza, but also Iran. Then there’s the hostages: God knows how many of them are still alive. Meanwhile Israel is really pushing itself into becoming a pariah state.”

Standing by Israel IS the right thing to do. Palestine NEVER EXISTED until Israel was given nationhood based on their historical rights to that small sliver of land in the ME, and they are the ONLY nation in the ME to share biblical beliefs to LIFE, LIBERTY & GOD GIVEN FREEDOM. "In 2011, Newt Gingrich said “The Palestinians are an invented people.” He was right. So why are they entitled to a state?

In 1964, the Palestine Liberation Organization was formed to liberate Palestine through armed struggle. But it took years for the notion of a Palestinian people to crystalize. In 1967, they were not recognized as such, nor were they considered a party to the conflict. Of course, I can't verify the authenticity of this and I can think of at least 4 players who might have an interest in promoting fake news. But it does make the valid point that Hamas is the very worst that the Palestinians have to offer.

One thing that everyone on both sides of the dispute has ignored or missed is that about 1/3 of the aid package for "Israel" (9/26) actually went to Hamas ,er humanitarian aid. I have seen nothing about how this is to be administered but the history of the USG, the UN and the various NGOs in such matters tells me there is no way that the primary beneficiary will be not be Hamas. So we are funding both sides but not our side (the border). When you fund both sides, the point is to keep the war going. I assume that the goal is to tie this war to yet another funding package for Ukraine. Worked like a charm the last time. Or perhaps it may to further the Color War against Israel by the US IC to get a regime more subservient to the US.

Expand full comment

“The only reason you don’t call what Israel is doing genocide is because it’s Jews killing Goy.”

I don’t see it as Jews killing Goy. I see it as Judaism being hijacked by Zionism which believes God gave Israel to the Jewish people 2500 years ago and therefore the land belongs to them and the pesky Palestinians just have to get out. Even many of the protesters here are Jewish and are appalled by what Israel is doing whereas Evangelical Christians like Mike Johnson have no problem with it and very much want to help the Zionists get rid of the Palestinians.

The "Zionists" exited Gaza in 2005, forcibly removing those Jews who wanted to stay. "Land for peace" you know.

In gratitude, the Gazan Arabs launched thousands of rockets into Israel over the next couple of years. The Gazans also trashed the economic capital (e.g. commercial greenhouses) the Jews had left behind in hopes that the Gazans would benefit from their use.

The Gazans also took tens (hundreds?) of $billions of aid from Western countries and used it not for economic development but to prepare for their next attempt to annihilate Israel.

Your "orchestration" is all Hamas's doing, and they were voted into power by their fellow Gazans.

Israel would do well to recall what General Curtis LeMay said following World War II: "I'll tell you what war is. You have to kill people. When you've killed enough, they stop fighting."

In short, The "Palestinians," as a group, have ***earned** every bit of lethal misery anyone would choose to inflict upon them.

At nearly 78 years old, Trump the person is no longer the point. He has exposed the massive corruption of our governing class, and for that we should be thankful.

It's very hard to admit it, but the truth is that the American system of government with its vaunted "checks and balances" has failed. Any system that allows a desiccated husk of a man like Joe Biden to hold power in the dangerous times in which we live can not survive for long. Even if you hate Trump there is absolutely no excuse for propping up a corrupt laughingstock like Joe Biden.

Unfortunately, it is not just the executive branch or the Democrats who have been corrupted. Our legislative branch is no longer functional. They not only no longer write the legislation they pass (a function long ago given over to lobbyists) they now no longer even have time to read the legislation they pass. The concerns of the people -- out of control illegal immigration and inflation caused by runaway spending -- are completely ignored in favor of more money to Ukrainian oligarchs and more authority to spy on Americans.

The judicial branch is just a tool used to persecute political opponents. There is not one person in a hundred who could explain the case against Trump in New York state. The obvious biases of Letitia James, Alvin Bragg and Judge Merchan are just ignored.

I wish all of these problems could be solved by a Trump victory in November but they won't be. Our institutions are so rotten that they are probably beyond saving. I just can't imagine the people who are behind the corruption of our institutions ever being held to account. Can you imagine actual criminal trials for people like John Brennan, Christopher Wray, James Clapper, Hilary Clinton etc. etc. I can't.

Our Constitution is a great document but without honorable men and women who are willing to live by its principles, it is nothing but a piece of paper. That's where we are right now. I don't know what will happen in post-Constitutional America but it won't be pretty.

John Adams in effect once said what you say in your last paragraph. The Far Left has succeeded, by disingenuous propaganda, in making young Americans no longer believe in the democracy.

Observant and meticulous, as always. Excellent piece.

I wonder if our nation truly understands just how close to societal collapse it is, not to mention economic and political implosion.

The uniparty, I posit, has indirectly revealed themselves many times over the last decade. With that claim, one has to wonder just how much of the political world we see is purely theatre, all for our benefit, and how much is real.

Sometimes, I wonder if the deep state is simply an oligarchic society that has secretly been running America for a century or more, and what we see on CSPAN is just a play, to keep us from grabbing pitchforks and torches.

When I listen to any of them speak, I always think of Nietzsche warning us to observe the observers of the stage... and the Church Fathers reminding us to use discernment in this age of demonic spiritual warfare.

Intriguing times...

This is real journalism! Loved watching these video clips. I am watching from Australia but I thought to myself "You go girl, you keep doing your thing because it is awesome!"

The fake news is so obviously fake and it is so wonderful to watch a compilation of the video clips that real journalists would present as a truly representative sample of America at this point in time.

Great piece and I would add: the worst part of this is that one guy is using the full power of the unelected federal bureaucracy to put the opponent in jail costing Trump millions in wealth. Not only that, the same folks have to be lawfaring any republican - including Speaker Johnson - who gets in the way to support Trump(Project65).

The two 'parties' now are the Insulated vs. Accountables.

PS We are a republic not a 'democracy'. It chills my blood when people focus on democracy which in its pure form is ugly at best.

This comment is directed to scum like David Frum.

Are you really satisfied with yourself? You and your ilk helped elect the most feeble, stupid mental midget ever to run for President, in 2020. You thought it would be better to burn down the system just so a person that showed he was capable would not get re-elected. You, along with the rats circling the swamp in DC find it better to hold your worthless prestige against those who make the country work. I'll quote that woman that was Bill Clinton's UN Ambassador, and is probably your spiritual leader: "There's a special place in Hell for people like you." And it probably already has your name on it.

Gee, what could Frum, Goldberg, Hayes, Kristol , Boot, and Krauthammer have in common that might lead David to like them so much? It’s not that they’re all neocon Zionist pigs who promote Israel’s current genocide of Palestinians is it? Odd that you didn’t add Weiss and Shapiro while you were naming names. Glad to see you aren’t racist much. For the record, if Hamas killed 30,000 Jewish civilians and wounded another 70,000 more, I’d call that genocide too. The only reason you don’t call what Israel is doing genocide is because it’s Jews killing Goy. To thine self be true.

Apparently you can't read too well. I said I never liked Boot and Frum, and I don't like the others now either. And if you don't like your "Goy" being killed, then don't invade another country and kill and rape everyone in sight. See, simple! And yes, I do like Bari and Ben--so sue me.

I probably care about Christians more than you do.

Do you talk about the real genocide that’s happening? Modern day slavery? Christians being slaughtered?

“In places like Nigeria, Sudan, Iran, China, and many more places, Christians are being slaughtered for serving the same Jesus we Christians in America serve. Pastors are being dragged outside of their churches and brutally murdered in front of their congregants. Church buildings are being burned down with the saints trapped inside. In places like Sudan, Nigeria, and Mauritania, Christian (and even some muslim) women and children are being bought and sold for as little as $20.

We can and should not remain silent.

I won’t make this article long. I just want to take this time to lovingly and urgently plead with those who have any kind of platform to make noise about global Christian persecution and the slave trading of Africans. You can share however you feel led to, but I will share some resources below for you to start with..”

This saddens me. And makes me think of an old commercial:

This is your brain. This is your brain on anti-Semitism. Any questions?

Expand full comment

The version I see is “This is your brain on anti-Goyism”. How do you not recognize genocide and a Holocaust? If these were Jews being killed by the tens of thousands, you would use those terms and I would agree with you. I am not an anti-Semite. Zionists are certainly perversely anti-Goy in their actions and killing and wounding over 100,000 proves it. Making homeless and starving 1,000,000 more proves it beyond all doubt. Won’t you join me in condemning this genocide? I was quick to condemn the Hamas terrorist attack here and personally reached out to my Jewish relatives on same.

Expand full comment

I can agree with you that the deaths of innocents are tragedies, no matter their ethnicity or religion. But I cannot agree that Israel is to blame for the tragedy, or that Israel is committing genocide.

The tragedy has been caused by Hamas deciding to commit atrocities that constitute war crimes, taking innocents hostage, and using their own children to shield them from the consequences of their actions. The supposed genocide would end tomorrow with the surrender of these criminals, and the release of any hostages they may have allowed to live. I doubt there are any left alive.

I have no hostility to Palestinians as an ethnic group. I condemn a culture that produces such profound hate that they use their own children for evil. They teach them that killing infidels is the highest value, and celebrate these murderers. They use their own children both to shield themselves, and as a tool to manipulate the sympathy of decent people around the world.

Won’t you join me in calling out the people who have perpetrated such evil, and call for their immediate surrender? I don’t believe that good is served by capitulating to evil rather than challenging it. You said you were quick to condemn Hamas terrorism. Why do you now want to hand them the victory they are seeking?

Expand full comment

I am happy to join you in saying Israel has the right to kill every fucking Hamas terrorist as long as you will join me in saying Israel has zero right to kill innocent Palestinian women, children and men. Killing innocent people is always wrong. Doing it in the tens of thousands is slaughter. This is common sense to me. Making a million people homeless and starving them is happening and is unjust. And no, just because Hamas started it, doesn’t mean you get to kill tens of thousands of civilians. That’s a bs argument made even worse by the fact that Israel helped develop Hamas into what it is today. Let’s stay with facts and see if we can find common ground. Btw. And please answer directly; if 30,000 Israelis were killed, 70,000 wounded, 1,000,000 made homeless; would you not call it genocide or a Holocaust? I keep asking this but you don’t answer directly. For the record, I would call it both because I have as much compassion for Israelis as I do Palestinians. I believe people are equal and that the lives of one group are not less than the lives of any other.

Expand full comment

I agree, people are equal and the lives of one group are not less than the lives of any other.

Instead of directing that observation to me, you should explain it to the people who think that killing women and children is an acceptable form of resistance. The people screaming “Death to Israel” on our university campuses. The people who use children as pawns to spread their poisonous hatred.

These are the people to whom you want to hand both a tactical and moral victory. There was a ceasefire in place on 10/6. We saw how much Hamas respected it. Now we have people all over the world proclaiming themselves pro Palestinian. I’ll pose my own hypothetical question to you. What do you think happens next?

“There will be peace when they love their own children more than they hate Jews.” They have proven that day is far away.

It’s very difficult for me to understand the people who seem to want to spread the poison of radical Islam throughout the world.

"Gotcha" is not a very bright thing to say to after presenting a transparently disingenuous distortion of what a fellow humanoid has said.

All polling is dependent on assumptions about turnout. Higher turnout helps Demos. High interest, in certain states, led to higher turnout. Because the polling firms all made the same mistake, 2022 wound up being the only recent election year where the polls were off in favor of Repos, when the error is usually in favor of Demos. (No doubt you fondly remember 2016 ...) If you had been paying attention, you would know that the blunting of the Red Wave was largely limited to a few states with high-profile "toss-up" races.

But hey, if you prefer to cling to abortion as the key, feel free to print up a bunch of bumper-stickers saying "Celebrate Labor-Pangs Abortion!" I will distribute them for you.
