Your claim of fear also had the effect of shutting down some of the conversation. As Libertarian said, fear is a necessary emotion to keep us alert to danger. But it loses its value as a warning system when one claims fear of everything. Then it just debilitates those who succumb to it.
The worst is using a false claim of fear as a weapon against decent people, in order to silence them into submission. By the way, it was the Nazis who used manipulation of fear as a tool against the Jews. They spread false claims designed to make Aryans believe that Jews were out to get them.
