Only 1.8 paid subscribers? That's a bit sad. I don't know if I'm the one or the point eight. (I'm short so I could be the point eight.) Presumably you mean 1.8 thousand paid subscribers! (ha ha)

Seriously, thank you for your hard and honest work, Sasha. Merry Christmas!

Yeah or maybe 1.8% of total subscribers are paid? That had me scratching my head as well.

Thank you, Sasha. And we (paid subscribers) don't need anything extra. We are happy to support you because your work merrits it! We're incredibly fortunate to have your voice express so much of our experiences and our gratitude is genuine and freely given to you.

Sasha your Substack has shown a brilliant light on the lies and gaslighting this country has been forced to endure the past 4 years. I truly can’t thank you enough. As long as you have a Substack I will be a faithful reader and supporter. Merry Christmas. Trump won!!!!!

You only have 1.8 subscribers? Surely you mean 1.8K!🤔

(And sorry I called you Shirley...😂)

That's a great old joke, but it doesn't work in print...;-)

Thanks, Sasha, you’re the best! Just watched Trump speak—so happy he won, especially now we know how bad it was/is in the Biden White House with him being out of it most of the time. I read that a Parkinson’s specialist visited the White House eight times. Maybe he has Parkinson’s? What a fraud on the American people. I wish the Democrats would decide to do something good for our country instead of screwing everything up. Would be so great if we could unite around common goals that we can all agree on. Happy new year 🎉 to everyone and merry Christmas! 🎄❤️

The version I am looking at says “1.8k”. Still at $50 a subscription that’s only $90.000. That’s too low for the value, cost of production, time and effort and to live in CA. Should be at least $500,000. Not sure of the optimum way to get there but way too big a gap now between what is and what should be.

And the Substack platform gets some percentage of that as the host (as of course it should).

I have had to prune down the substacks I subscribe to. Sasha, yours is one of the three left for which I pay. There is no one in the substack world with your combination of humanity, generosity, creativity, insight-- and ability to touch me deeply with glimpses of your own life story. We're so lucky to have you.

I don't mind paying for access to your writing. But there are a lot of writers that I would like to read, and the subscriptions add up. I would think that someone could consolidate this and get you a whole bunch of other readers. The amount per reader to you might be lower, but you would have more readers. Maybe a whole lot more!

I suggested this to Yuri B and he said he would raise it with Substack Central. No action so far

Like a bundle? Pick 4 for combined 10% off what total would have been if picked individually?

Expand full comment

Yeah. There has got to be some price point where the writers make more in total.

Kinda like a cable package. One that can be massaged by link counts and read times. The more you engage, the more you get.

Sounds like an excellent idea. Subscriptions add up.

Thanks for the Amfest vids Sasha. I’ll listen while I cook tomorrow! Also appreciate your thoughtfulness re your paid subscribers. Although I agree with others, no inducements necessary- happy to read/ listen to whatever you want to share.

I don't know what the 1.8 means, but I'm happy to have been part of that 1.8 for the last couple of years and I plan to continue. Props to you, Sasha - great content!

Thanks for posting these Sasha. I'm sorry I wasn't able to attend AMFEST this year. I had gone the past two years and had a great time. I'm happy to support your work, it is absolutely worth every penny. I know that there are a ton of writers who are worthy of support and is sometimes feels a bit overwhelming to decide who you decide to support. But I find your story so inspirational that I think you deserve much more support than you are getting. Keep up the good work.

Back in 2018, I was in a hangar for a Trump rally, standing at spitball distance from the stage. A spotlight Air Force one was parked just outside, and the place was packed with standing people. Trump's eclectic Playlist was cranked up to eleven, and I was a 5'2" female getting buffeted by guys who were so rudely about 7' tall. My head was pounding, my feet were hurting, and I was tired of staring at backs. So after Trump had been speaking for about ten minutes, I dipped out, having gotten my peek. Walked for perhaps half an hour before finding the car, where I'd left my vape. Those Trump rallies are inhumanly crowded. I'd been to another one week before he beat Hillary, and that one was insane, too. Not subjecting myself to one again, and I hope he doesn't bother with them any more, but I'd love to see more like his 7/4/20 address.

Just sayin'. He was bragging that no one volunteers their seats at his rallies. Lol.

Sasha, I think you have to put your substack behind a paywall. If not immediately, soon.

You can give your product away for free to build a client base, but many of your readers will gladly pay the small subscription price to keep reading your excellent commentary. Matt Taibbi charges, so should you. No one can work for free. Something to think about starting the New Year.

Hey, some of us really want and need to see Sasha’s articles but are financially strapped. I cannot subscribe to the many great writers on here.

A gentle reminder that Sasha needs to pay her bills too, and she’s the one doing the work…

That’s true. 18,000 paying subscribers -400 comps x $monthly fee = $? I don’t know what her monthly fee is. I wish her the best. She deserves every bit of it as she’s an excellent writer, dedicated and talented.
